Our backyard has been, for quite some time now, a complete embarrassment. We've not been able to go outside with guests, nor even allow people to see the backyard it was such a disgrace. Completely overgrown in some spots, staggly and disreputable in others. Added to that was the screened room full of all the junk from the garage. It was, in a word, horrible.
But we started on Australia Day by beginning to empty the screened room. Every item that we picked up was classified: Give Away, Throw Away, Put Away or Return. The Give Aways (not many) were listed immediately on freecycle. The Throw Aways were stacked against the garage wall, the Put Aways were stowed neatly and appropriately in an organised fashion in the garage or house. As I recall there weren't actually any Returns.
Today we were able to finish the screened room and Mr Bear swept it thoroughly. Then, we moved onto the garden. Mr Bear mowed the grass...I kid you not it was up to 3 feet high in some places...I raked it and carted it in wheelbarrow loads to the compost pile. When the lawn was mowed we grabbed garden shears, secateurs and pruning saws and attacked the overgrowth. Below are the pictures showing the results of our labour. I was too embarrassed to take before pictured this time, but you'll have to take my word for it that it was awful.
This is what we trimmed, pruned and dug out, just waiting for a skip to arrive later this week.
