I bet we've all had the same problem...something damp left in the washing basket has caused mould to grow on the clothes. In my experience it is never something that doesn't matter, it's always someone's favourite shirt or best dress or, as in the case this week, a reasonably expensive school uniform shirt.
My heart sank when I saw it becuase I didn't think it would come off. I triedsomething new and it worked. The shirt looks as good as new and I am thrilled with the results.
1. Brush the mould quite firmly and vigorously with an old toothbrush to loosen the spores. They won't come off but the theory is that they're easier to soak off if they've been loosened first.
2. Fill a bucket with warm water and completely dissolves two lid's worth of Nappy (Diaper) Soaker, the colour safe variety. Here in Australia it's called Napisan, but it probably has other names overseas.
3. Immerse the garment completely in the water and allow to soak overnight or for at least 4 hours...a heavy mould growth may require longer.
4. Wash as normal.
A couple of reminders though...if the garment is really delicate or irreplaceable, soaking might not be a good plan just in case. Check care labels as always and proceed with caution if you're not sure.
